Why no ZFS?

According to Andy Tucker, Sun are distributing pre-built Solaris appliances for VMware. Great! I was annoyed that there were hardly any Solaris ones at VMware.

But what’s this? Only Update 1? We’re nearly at Update 3 already, and by missing out Update 2 you’re missing out on ZFS, one of the crown jewels of Solaris 10. What were they thinking?

So at the moment what you should do is download another VMware appliance (any other OS) and use that to install Solaris from a DVD image.

John, congratulations on being able to find the update 2 VM at sun.com! Can you post a link?

The readme file for the update 1 VM says the root password is “vmware”, so give that a go. If not, maybe there’s a readme file.
